Imagine walking into an office where you’re greeted by a superhero statue, asked to leave your shoes at the door so you feel at home, and find yourself standing beneath a manifesto that reads: “I dare to dream big.” Welcome to Mindvalley—a company with a mission to create the world’s greatest workplace.
After attending Awesomeness Fest in Thailand in 2014, I extended my trip to Kuala Lumpur to visit Mindvalley HQ and experience first-hand how this company operates, what they believe in, and what makes their culture so unique.
For those unfamiliar with Mindvalley, it’s a global education, technology, and publishing brand founded by Vishen Lakhiani.
Their mission? To push humanity forward.
Originally a digital publishing company, Mindvalley has since grown into a collection of businesses across multiple industries:
✔ Personal growth & mindfulness
✔ Entrepreneurship & business innovation
✔ Technology & mobile apps
✔ Health & wellness
They openly share their learnings, constantly experimenting with workplace culture, team dynamics, and personal growth—making them a fascinating company to observe.
During my visit, I had the opportunity to interview Marta Kondryn, a member of the Talent Team at Mindvalley, to gain insight into what makes this workplace truly exceptional.
What Makes a Mindvalley Employee?
According to Marta, the ideal Mindvalley employee is:
💡 Deeply curious and committed to personal growth
📚 Passionate about learning and self-improvement
🧘♂️ Open to new experiences, including silent meditation retreats
🌍 From diverse backgrounds, bringing different perspectives
💛 Not just looking for a job but seeking meaningful work
“The kind of people that attend Awesomeness Fest are our perfect employees. They don’t just work a 9-5 job; they actively seek balance, fulfilment, and purpose in everything they do.” – Marta
Why Do People Love Working at Mindvalley?
1. Freedom to Innovate 🚀
Mindvalley operates in a startup-like environment, meaning employees have freedom to experiment, create, and launch new ideas. There’s a constant push to try new things and challenge the status quo.
2. A Global Family 🌎
With employees from 30+ countries, the workplace feels more like a community of friends rather than just colleagues. Many employees even travel together and form close bonds, making work feel like an extension of their personal growth journey.
3. Unmatched Personal Development 📖
Mindvalley doesn’t just promote self-improvement—it actively integrates it into the company culture. Employees are encouraged to go beyond their roles, explore their own ambitions, and even launch their own ventures after working at Mindvalley.
“After Mindvalley, I don’t think we can go back to corporate companies. Either we become entrepreneurs, or we seek companies with the same values.”
Unique Aspects of Mindvalley’s Work Culture
To cultivate such an inspiring workplace, Mindvalley has designed several unique cultural practices that encourage continuous learning, self-expression, and connection.
🌟 Awesomeness Report – A weekly meeting in the “Hall of Awesomeness” where employees celebrate their achievements.
🌟 Learn Hour – Employees can teach or learn anything they want from colleagues, from coding to mindfulness techniques.
🌟 Learn Day – A monthly day dedicated entirely to learning, where employees can read, take courses, or attend training.
🌟 Unlimited Books – Employees can order books every quarter, giving them unlimited access to knowledge.
🌟 Mindvalley Courses – Employees get free access to the company’s personal growth programs.
🌟 Direct Access to Leaders – Vishen Lakhiani, the founder, is always available for coaching, mentorship, and conversations with employees.

Mindvalley Hiring Criteria
Unlike traditional hiring methods, Mindvalley don’t prioritise technical skills—they hire for cultural fit first. Here’s what they look for in candidates:
✅ A passion for learning and growth
✅ A sense of curiosity and openness
✅ Authenticity and a strong sense of purpose
✅ A willingness to contribute to the community
Most unique requirement? A video cover letter.
“People sometimes worry it needs to be fancy, but that’s not the point. We just want to see if it would be fun to work with you!”
Is This The Future of Work?
Visiting Mindvalley wasn’t just about seeing a cool office—it was about experiencing what the future of work could look like. This is a company that values people as much as profit. They understand that happiness, growth, and fulfilment make people more engaged, creative, and successful.
It made me reflect:
- What if more workplaces prioritised personal-growth over rigid job descriptions?
- What if employees were inspired to become entrepreneurial instead of being trapped in the same roles?
- What if work felt like a life-enhancing experience rather than just a getting paid?
I left feeling inspired, challenged, and deeply curious about how we can bring more of this culture into the world.
