Ice-breakers can make or break the energy of an event. Done well, they spark laughter, creativity, and genuine connections—done poorly, they can feel forced, awkward, or like a dreaded corporate trust exercise. At Creators Club, we believe in ice-breakers that ignite creativity, challenge perspectives, and most importantly, bring people together in a fun, unexpected way.
Over the years, we’ve designed and tested a wild mix of unconventional ice-breakers, each crafted to set the tone for the night’s theme—whether it’s confidence, networking, sales, or launching big ideas. These activities don’t just help people warm up; they serve as a playful gateway into deeper discussions, collaboration, and creative thinking.
If you’re looking for fresh ways to get people engaged, inspired, and out of their comfort zones, here are six of our all-time favorite ice-breakers from Creators Club to spark ideas for your own events.

1. Freelancing Olympic Games
- 🏅 The Challenge: Teams were tasked with designing a challenge for an imaginary event—the “Self-Employment Olympics.” The goal? To create a fun, skill-building activity that tests participants’ readiness for freelance life.
- 🛠 How It Worked: Each team had 15 minutes to brainstorm and devise an activity, using any props they could find. The challenge could focus on skills like time management, problem-solving, adaptability, or pitching ideas.
- 🎤 Sharing the Fun: Once the time was up, teams presented their challenges to the group, demonstrating how their event would help freelancers develop essential skills.
- ✨ Why It Worked: This ice-breaker is not only hilarious and engaging, but it also gets people thinking creatively about the realities of freelancing—while fostering teamwork and spontaneity.
2. Create A Group Dance (“Confi-dance”)
- 🕺🏾 The Challenge: Since the monthly theme was Confidence, we played on words and created the “Confi-dance” challenge! Participants were split into small groups of 4-5 people, with each group assigned a specific body part (e.g., arms, legs, torso, or head & shoulders).
- 🎶 How It Worked: With everyone dancing to the same song, each team had 15 minutes to create a simple set of dance moves using their assigned body part. Once ready, they taught their moves to the other groups—culminating in a full-body, group dance routine!
- 😂 Why It Was Hilarious: This ice-breaker pushed people outside their comfort zones in a fun and low-pressure way. As long as one person in the group was willing to be a little silly, loved music, or could manage even the most basic dance move, the energy stayed high!
- 🎤 Confidence Boost: Whether or not people were natural dancers, the activity helped break down inhibitions early on, proving that networking doesn’t have to be stiff and serious—it can be playful and fun! Plus, at the very least, we all got to enjoy some music together.
3/10 – Draw The Future
- 🖌 The Challenge: This ice-breaker was part of a ‘Futurism’-themed event, where our guest speaker explored topics like innovation, technology, and change. To get everyone thinking creatively, we kicked off with a hands-on exercise called “Draw the Future.”
- 🚀 How It Worked: Teams of 4-5 people were given a future-themed prompt based on the year 2025 (e.g., transport, food, housing, or phones). Each person started drawing their vision for the future, but with one twist—they couldn’t lift their pen off the page until the task was complete! There were no right or wrong answers—the goal was simply to spark imagination and discussion.
- 😂 Why It Was Fun: The “no lifting your pen” rule made the drawings hilariously abstract, keeping the exercise lighthearted rather than overly intellectual. It also encouraged collaborative thinking, as teams had to interpret and build upon each other’s futuristic ideas.
- ✨ Creative Takeaway: This activity wasn’t just about drawing—it was about visualizing possibilities, embracing uncertainty, and exploring future trends in a playful way. A perfect warm-up for an evening of big ideas and innovation!
4/10 – Selling The Old as New
🛍 The Challenge: This ice-breaker was part of a session on sales and selling techniques. Each team was given a very old, everyday invention—something simple that we now take for granted. Their mission? Reinvent it for a modern audience who had never heard of it before! Examples: Paperclip, Toothbrush, Wheelbarrow, Umbrella, Matches.
🎤 How It Worked: Teams had 15 minutes to craft a 1-2 minute sales pitch, using any storytelling techniques, props, or creativity they wanted. They then presented their modern rebrand of the product to the room.
😂 Why It Was Fun: Trying to sell something so ordinary as if it were a groundbreaking innovation led to hilarious pitches, exaggerated enthusiasm, and some incredibly creative product names!
🚀 What It Led To: After the fun and laughter, this activity became a springboard for discussing real-world sales techniques—how to frame value, tell compelling stories, and make people feel like they need something they never knew existed.
5. Paper Sculptures
🌳 The Challenge: As part of a networking-themed session, we explored the metaphor of a tree and its branches—a perfect symbol for growth, connections, and seasons of change in networking.
📰 How It Worked: Each team had 15 minutes to sculpt the most impressive tree they could imagine—using only recycled newspaper. The most “tree-like” creation won a novelty prize! No trees were harmed—only discarded newspapers were repurposed in the making of these networking-inspired masterpieces!
😂 Why It Was Fun: The challenge sparked creativity and teamwork, with groups twisting, folding, and balancing their trees in wildly imaginative ways. The sculptures ranged from majestic oaks to abstract masterpieces!
🌱 The Deeper Meaning: After the activity, we used the tree metaphor to discuss networking: Branches – Expanding your connections and opportunities. Roots – Building strong foundations in relationships. Seasons – Understanding the ebb and flow of creative careers.
6. The Entrepreneurial Navigator
🚀 The Challenge: In this launch-themed session, we challenged teams to design and build a model or drawing of an entrepreneurial rocket ship—a metaphor for launching creative ideas and navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship.
🛠 How It Worked: Teams had 15 minutes to create their rocket using either craft materials, drawings, or improvised objects. The rocket design had to include symbolic features representing aspects of launching a business or creative project.
🌟 Why It Worked: This hands-on exercise encouraged visual thinking, metaphorical storytelling, and collaboration, setting the stage for a deeper discussion on marketing, branding, and self-promotion when launching new creative projects. Features included; Radars & Sensors – To spot new opportunities, Aerodynamic Wings – To stay efficient and productive. Fuel Tanks – Representing energy, motivation, and resources. Shiny, Colorful Paintwork – To stand out and attract attention (marketing!).
🎤 Key Takeaway: The session provided a “launch pad” for the workshop ahead, helping creatives think about how they position themselves, overcome obstacles, and accelerate towards their goals. 🚀
