As the year winds down, I always find myself feeling different—depending on how successful the year has been.
Personally, I love the holiday season. It’s a time to slow down, connect with family and friends, and reflect on what truly matters. But professionally? That’s a different story.
Some years, I feel exhausted—run down from the relentless pursuit of goals. Other times, my mind is already racing ahead, planning for the future. And sometimes, I find myself in deep contemplation, reviewing everything that has unfolded.
There have been years where I just wanted to fast-forward to January—to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. But I’ve learned that starting something new without properly closing out the old is a recipe for repeating the same patterns.
So, this year, I’m making a conscious effort to reflect—to truly look back before I look forward.
I’m reviewing the year from multiple angles: my freelance business, my creative projects, and my personal growth.
Yes, part of me feels resistance—facing reality isn’t always easy. But I know that by taking the time to process, I’ll gain clarity. I’ll understand what worked, what didn’t, and how I can make better choices in the new year.
Reflection Areas: Key Questions to Ask
If you want to do your own year-end review, here are some guiding questions to help you reflect.
1. Enjoyment
- What did I love this year? And why?
- What moments brought me genuine joy?
- What were my personal and professional highlights?
2. Time
- How did I actually spend my time?
- Where did my energy go?
- What tasks and responsibilities did I juggle?
3. Effort
- What drained me the most?
- What challenges did I struggle with?
- What tasks did I resist, and why?
4. Results
- What did I achieve this year?
- What am I most proud of?
- What tangible outcomes came from my efforts?
5. Finances
- How much money did I (or my business) make and spend?
- What do the numbers reveal?
- Was this a financially successful year?
6. Personal Performance
- When was I at my absolute best?
- How productive was I, and what held me back?
- What did I learn about myself this year?
Moving Forward with Insight
Once I’ve completed my reflection, I’ll use these insights to make intentional choices for the new year. Instead of setting resolutions blindly, I’ll look for real opportunities to shift, evolve, and grow.
I also plan to bring my review to life in a creative way—maybe through visuals or deep analysis (because that’s just how my brain works!).
I’d love to hear from you, too. How do you reflect on your year? Do you have any techniques or rituals that help you process and plan ahead?
Drop a comment or message me—I’d love to learn from your approach.
Here’s to finishing the year with clarity and stepping into the next one with intention.
